In an effort to better understand all of the pandemic protocols, I set the task to create a sanitation tool out of the objects on hand. The act allows me to contemplate the shortfalls of capitalism during a global crises.
Who can we trust when profits are to be made and government guidance is lacking?
Covid Lamp is staged in a room with my dismantled sketchbook from my first year at Cranbrook. A systematic procedure is implemented to keep viewers safe from the harmful UV radiation while the lamp sanitizes the gallery. The sculpture becomes an instrument that shortens the lifespan of the archive—destroys evidence of experience—provokes a sense of futility.
What is my struggle worth? What is an individual's value within capitalist culture?
